Our priorities

We foster sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation and improved rural livelihoods on and  beyond farms through the collaborative implementation of technical solutions, expertise, and knowledge by local partners.

Our work is closely related to the SDGs, because SAN Sustainable Agriculture Framework (SAF) that we use as the basis for our proposals contributes towards achieving 41 targets under 14 SDGs. In addition, our network nature is aligned to SDG 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goals.

We have extensive experience with various approaches to sustainability in agriculture, from certification to the design and implementation of customized tools for companies and agencies. Now we are focusing our efforts in achieving four strategic goals:

  • Contribute to sustainable value chains, and prosperous farmers and rural communities.

  • Develop innovative and practical applications of technological solutions in agriculture.

  • Ensure that agricultural production contributes to food systems that are healthy for people and the planet.

  • Expand and strengthen SAN as a global network of organizations that secures a sustainable future for people, food and nature.

In order to achieve these goals, we work mainly in projects related to four thematic priorities:

Agriculture and rural landscapes resilient to climate change, by developing and supporting intervention strategies that promote agroecosystem diversity to better adapt to current and future climate conditions, while maintaining and enhancing productivity, and efficiently using and restoring available natural resources.

Prosperous farmers and rural communities, by associating with other organizations, government and companies that facilitate the scalability of the positive impact of the technical projects related to key issues such as livelihoods, human rights and support to vulnerable groups.

Reducing the environmental footprint of agriculture, by fostering rural landscapes where natural ecosystems are protected and restored and agricultural, and livestock production has increasingly lower, and eventually positive, carbon, toxicity, biodiversity and water footprints.

Big data management for sustainable agriculture, by collecting, organizing, analyzing and reporting information to support decision making by stakeholders at different scales, through a digital platform dedicated to support the sustainability of agricultural operations.
